Ali’i Adventures Shack is your new one stop kona surf shop and Hub for your Big Island vacation. Stop by the Ali’i Adventures Shack located at where Palani Road turns into Ali’i Drive in the heart of Kailua-Kona and tell us what you want to do on you Big Island adventure.  The friendly staff at the Shack will do everything they can to find you the right tour and adventure. Or, simply stop by and talk story with us so we can learn from you.  One thing is certain about the staff at Ali’i Adventures and the Ali’i Adventures Shack is that they are ocean and Big Island adventure enthusiasts and are always looking to learn new ways to explore. We would love to meet you and help you meet your goals for this vacation.

Did you travel alone? Are you on a honeymoon? An anniversary? Did you bring the kids? What about Grandma and Grandpa, are they here? Separate adventures or all together adventures? Are you beginner’s? Are you more expert level?  We will help you find what you are looking for.

Are you getting the idea that this is not a “normal” kona surf shop? Traditional kona surf shops are awesome and there are a few here but we aim to be a true Adventure Shop. We do rent surfboards and boogie boards but we obviously do much, much more than that.  That being said, if you do rent a surfboard, we can help you load it onto your vehicle and give you/assist you with the straps.  We will also assist you with locations and swell information for the entire island.

Do you want to kayak? We have single and double kayaks for rent.  They are easily transportable to the Kailua Pier or Kamakahonu Beach for launching.  If you rent a kayak, make sure to rent a snorkel and mask also.  Kailua Bay is home to many Hawaiian spinner dolphins.  During the mornings there are often pods of dolphins swimming through the bay.  They are in sleep mode while in the bay so we do ask that you respect them while interacting with them.  If you do choose to get off of the kayak and into the water we ask that you use the rope as a leash to your wrist and that you secure the paddle to the kayak.

We also have paddleboards for rent or purchase here at our kona surf shop.  We actually have two distinct types of paddleboards.  The “normal” paddleboard and the LightSUP paddleboard. All the paddleboards launch at the same location as the kayaks. This is calm water which is great for beginners to gain some balance on the board before entering the bay.  We also offer LightSUP boards which are clear/see through on the front of the board.  You can see the aquatic life pass beneath you as you paddle.  These are especially amazing at sunrise and sunset as the aquatic life changes behavior with the sun.  Another feature is we can set you up with a personalized tour on the LightSUP boards.

Do you SCUBA? While we are not officially a Dive Shop, this kona surf shop is affiliated with a PADI 5-Star Dive shop here in Kailua-Kona and we do offer shore diving scuba gear for rent, just bring your certification card.  If you rent from us do not be surprised if you see some of us out there with you. We are avid scuba divers in the Ali’i Adventure Shack.  We will make sure you have the best information about local conditions and dive sites. Want to see a 15-foot Tiger Shark? We know where she likes to hang out! Not only will this kona surf shop help you find the sharks, we will even tell you their names.

Do you just want to hang out at the beach or pool?  Big Island sun can be unforgiving. We have performance swim shirts and rash guards for sun protection. We have top quality Reef Safe sunscreen and after sun lotion.  Always use Reef Safe sunscreens, we want to keep the reefs and aquatic life healthy and beautiful for our keiki. If you are hanging by the beach or the pool, stop by and pick up some gear.  We have beach chairs, beach umbrellas, dry bags and coolers and any other gear you will need.  We have directions to all of the great “isolated” beaches and can give you information about restrooms and facilities at each of them.

How about Manta Rays?  I’m not a huge ballet fan, but after watching 1,000 pound manta rays glide and turn and pirouette through kona waters at night I might have to rethink my stance on ballet.  There is nothing more graceful than manta rays interacting with each other and snorkelers.  We can offer night snorkel trips with mantas and night scuba dives with mantas. Take your pick, they are both amazing.

Need a break from the water? Does a kona surf shop usually offer coffee tours? Volcano tours? Rum experience?!?! This kona surf shop does!!  At Ali’i Adventures we can arrange a coffee tour, or a brewery tour, or both! We can direct you to a local chocolate producer where you will taste homemade chocolate and tour the production area.  Wanna get dirty?  How about a Mauna Kea ATV tour? Or a Zipline tour, or even a guided volcano hike?  Or, you can do it all on a luxury Island Circle tour that provides lunch and dinner. Don’t worry I didn’t forget about the rum.  We can set up a, lunch included, tour of the northern part of the island that included famous Pololu Valley, the King Kamehameha statue and tours of the Kuleana Rum farm and distillery.

I hope you can tell that the owners and operators of Ali’i Adventures and the Ali’I Adventure Shack are not just tour operators. We are ocean and outdoor enthusiasts that live and love the Big Island of Hawaii.

We look forward to meeting you so we can talk story.
